Shots & Fever

Monday was a tough day for all of us, especially Amelia. Although we were celebrating her two-month birthday, it was marred with a trip to the pediatrician. She weighed in at 10 pounds, 7 ounces and has grown to 22 inches!!!

She also got vaccinations.... four to be exact! Amelia got two shots in each thigh!! Eric had to hold her little arms down while I tried to distract her. There was no distracting her when those needles went in! It just broke my heart to see her little face turn blood red as she began to scream!! We are so blessed with such a happy, laid-back baby, that those true screams are foreign to our ears! Thankfully, the nurse moved swiftly and it was over in a matter of seconds, but the damage was done.

Thanks to tips from my good friends Jenni and Sam, I had a bottle waiting and that seemed to comfort her... for a minute. Then she would wail again. Suck some more, followed by a milder cry. Finally, she stuck with the bottle and the blood drained from her little face.

We thought we were out of the woods because she had no reaction to her previous vaccination (just one shot on her one-month birthday). However, Amelia woke up with a fever Tuesday morning. 101.3 to be exact. We spent the day together on the couch with the infant Tylenol flowing. By the end of the afternoon, she was beginning to perk up. Eric came home and I left to go to a Junior League meeting. BIG MISTAKE!

By the time I made it into Decatur, Eric called and didn't have to say a word, I could hear her in the background. She was screaming and could not be consoled!!! I raced back home (probably burned half a tank of gas trying to get there). It took us several hours to get her completely calmed down. Thankfully, by Wednesday morning, the fever was gone and life was back to normal.

So, we weathered our first fever... the first of many, I'm sure.

First Mother's Day

What a great day... it was so odd to have people wish me "Happy Mother's Day." It was overwhelming at times to look at Amelia and to realize I am a mom. Eric did great with the day! When I came downstairs, there was a bouquet of tulips and presents! He, I mean Amelia...., gave me a beautiful picture frame where I can put 9 different pictures of my baby girl. It even matches the decor of the nursery. He also gave me a Willow Tree "mother and daughter" angel. I just love the line and love the one he gave me. After all that, we went to Rays on the River for brunch. Its the same place Eric and his dad used to take Betsy for Mother's Day. It was nice for us to continue that tradition. PLUS, the food was great! Then we walked down by the river where Eric snapped this picture. What a great first holiday. I look forward to MANY more.

Relay for Life

Friday night, we all went out to the Gwinnett County Fair Grounds for Amelia's 1st Relay. This is an event that raises money for the American Cancer Society. We were walking in honor of two very important women in our lives... women that Amelia will never meet because of cancer.

Our hearts were heavy as we remembered Eric's mom, Elizabeth (Betsy), and Kim's cousin, Debbie. Amelia gets her middle name from Grandma Betsy and Kim got her middle name from cousin Debbie. It was a very moving and emotional evening as we celebrated survivors and remembered those we have lost. The night reminded us of how blessed we are to have a wonderful, HEALTHY, baby girl. We hope that Amelia will always know how much she is loved and how she is truly blessed.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Gallant

While we were there, we met David Greene. UGA's quaterback from 2001-2004. GO DAWGS!!! He was gracious enough to allow us to grab a quick photo. And, he was happy to hear that Amelia already has a UGA cheerleading outfit ready for the fall!!
(I never realized how short I am!!! -kim)

Some Recent Photos of Amelia

Big Eyes

Mommy's favorite picture of Amelia. Every other picture shows the truth.... Amelia looks just like Daddy!!!

Test

We are so blessed with Amelia, that we want to tell the world about how wonderful she is.... will this help us communicate that? Can Kim actually do something "technical"???? We'll see!
